Application Info

A completed application for the Sevilleta LTER Research Experience for Undergraduates Summer Program will consist of five items:

  1. A complete online application.
  2. A resume (in case of Ecology applicants) or portfolio (in case of Art applicants).
  3. An unofficial copy of your academic transcript. If accepted into the REU program, applicants will be required to provide an official copy before starting the program.
  4. Two letters of recommendation are preferred, but only one is required. These can be from faculty advisors from the student’s home institution, mentors, or previous employers.  Recommendations that are able to comment on the applicant’s academic ability are preferred.
  5. A carefully written, 5000-character personal statement addressing (1) your interest in ecology, (2) previous work and educational experience, (3) specific areas of research interest, (4) your current professional career goals, and (4) the skills or experiences you hope to achieve by spending the summer at UNM Sevilleta Field Station.

If you are a member of a group that is underrepresented in science or feel that you have faced challenges/hardships in pursuing your career goals, feel free to discuss how a research experience at Sevilleta can help you overcome these challenges in your statement.
