Austin Dillon

Austin’s 2012 REU project was  “Comparing microfauna of soil crusts in four arid biomes across an elevational gradient.”

Austin graduated in 2013 with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Brianna Levison

Brianna’s 2012 REU project was “Algal species diversity on the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge at four natural springs vs. the diversity at the artificial springs, and the impact of long-term survival on wildlife.”

Emmanuel Sosa

Manny’s 2012 REU project was “The impact of fire history on semiarid grassland plant communities.”

Manny graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Geology from UTEP. He is currently working as a professional Geologist.

Hanna Marti

Hanna’s 2012 REU project was “The effect of shrub encroachment on harvester ant and lizard communities of the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.”

Hanna graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Biology from St. Olaf College.

Hannah Berry

Hannah’s 2012 Art in Ecology REU project was “Biological illustrations and Lumen prints of the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge based on the studies of other REU students.”

Hannah graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Environmental Technology and Management. She is currently a graduate student at Colorado State University in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Jasmine Childress

Jasmine’s 2012 REU project was “Estimating population size and nest productivity of the threatened Gray Vireos in Los Pinos Mountains.”

Jasmine graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Biology from Florida Southern College. She is currently persuing a PhD at UC Santa Barbara in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology.

Jeanette Chu

Jeanette’s 2012 REU project was  “The effects of increased rainfall on growth in Bouteloua eriopoda and Larrea tridentata.”

Jeanette graduated in 2013 with a B.S. in Biology from the University of St. Andrews. She went on to receive her J.D. in International and Comparative Law in 2016.

Lizet Mendoza

Lizet’s 2012 REU project was “A survey of population size and parasitism of gray vireos in the Los Pinos Mountains.”

Maite Martin

Maite’s 2012 REU project was “Behavior and time budget comparisons on older and newly reintroduced colonies of Gunnison’s Prairie Dogs.”

Maite graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Biology from UTEP. She is currently a Master’s student in Biology at UTEP.

Natalia Roberts

Natalia’s 2012 Art in Ecology REU project was entitled ” Mimicking the desert’s use of water”

Natalia graduated in 2013 with her B.A. in Anthropology and Architecture from Washington University, St. Louis.

Natasha Vinas

Natasha’s 2012 REU project was “Survey of root-associated fungi of Larrea tridentata and Bouteloua eriopoda across the shrub-grassland transition zone on the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.”

Natasha graduated in 2012 with a B.S. in Biology from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She then went on to Clemson University to get her Master’s in Microbiology in 2015.

Nizhoni Harvey

Nizhoni’s 2012 REU project was “Comparing diurnal nitrogen fixation rates of the pre-monsoon seasons in four arid biomes across an elevational gradient and also comparing microfauna of soil crusts in four arid biomes across and elevational gradient.”

Rande Patterson

Rande’s 2012 REU project was “Survey on the tarantuas of the Los Pinos at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.”

Rande graduated in 2014 with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Rice University. She went on to get her Master’s in Entomology at Texas A&M University.
